Every construction site requires a trash chute to eliminate the piles of debris generated every day. This debris contains a lot of trash that can be harmful to the workers.

For example, it may contain nails and glasses, which can be accidental. Keeping the construction site clean is important for the safety of the workers and visitors. A trash chute can conveniently dispose of every trash that poses health risks.

Advantages of Garbage Chutes

Garbage chutes offer many advantages.

1. Safer Workspace

With debris churning out every day at construction sites, safety becomes a major issue. A garbage chute ensures a safe work environment where one can be carefree and move around quickly.

2. Convenience of Work

There are many sites of work at a construction site that can be spread into a few kilometers. Garbage chutes installed at a different location can be very time-saving and promote business ease.

3. Clean Environment

Getting rid of the trash on the working site will allow the workers to work freely and faster. It also allows the workers to use more expansive space for work.

4. Insurance-Less Work Environment

Debris and trash can lead to many accidents due to trips and falls. This would lead to circumstances where the workers need to be insured. A garbage chute ensures a safe and clean working place that causes minimal or no accidents, saving the expenditure on insurance.

Types of Garbage Chute

There can be many types of garbage chutes, including:

  • Linen chutes: They are best suited for commercial spaces such as hospitals, schools, and hotels where the garbage is related to linen and laundry.
  • Waste chutes: They are part of high-rise apartments and buildings that need to dispose of garbage from different levels.
  • Chutes for garbage: Garbage chute system is installed to collect garbage and segregate it into dry and wet waste for better recycling.
  • Debris chutes: This type of garbage chute can be long and go up to 200 ft. It can be used to dispose of the debris at the lowest point.

Installation of Garbage Chute

1. The first step is to create a discharge room on the first floor using a floor support angle. It is placed over the floor, ensuring that the intake door is parallel to its cross members.
2. First intake section is placed into the opening, and then the supporting rings are recognized and supported.
3. After placing the first intake section, it is time to seal the chute. The bent end is put into the intake section to seal the space.
4. Now, the chute head plate is installed. The flexible hose is connected to the chute vent section above the roof.
5. Fit the assembly for the vent over the roof and secure the vent body. Counter flashing can now be attached to the vent pipe.
6. Now, we have a vertical chute. It is time to connect the electrical cables, level the intake door, and plumb.
7. The installation should end in the discharge room. Next, add the discharge sleeve with the angle clips secured using the bolts and nuts. Similarly, discharge should be secured to the sleeve.
8. Now, the fusible link can be connected to the angle clip at the bottom of the door.

Materials Used in Garbage Chute

A garbage chute can be made up of different metals and plastics. Aluminum is widely used as a garbage chute material for its lightweight and corrosion resistance. Aluminum alloys manufacture cast, extruded cold-finished, and other types of garbage chutes.

Steel garbage chutes are also used with coatings of different materials such as aluminum to resist corrosion. Another prominent material is high-density polyethylene which resists damage under extreme environmental conditions.
